Shaun Dennis, September Session

Having arranged in advance a session with SB UK Ltd Owner Uwe, the time was fast approaching and I couldn’t wait to meet him and fish with him for a couple of nights.
On arrival at the lake we found that it was empty although another guy did turn up just as we got there. We decided to let him go wherever he wanted and pitch ourselves around him, with the best chance of us both getting some action.
After a bit of tactical thinking from us both, we had decided for Uwe to fish boulders swim, centre of the lake and the swim that’s been doing most bites but has had a lot of pressure. I opted to fish further down than Uwe, a couple swims down. This covered a decent amount of water for us, so felt the best option we had as the other member had gone in peg1.
The day passed fairly quickly to be honest after getting everything sorted and the rods out for the night. I chose to fish close in, there’s a channel that runs in between 2 lilly beds, with fairly thick weed either side, I positioned my rods accordingly and went for a chat with Uwe. Ideally I was hoping Uwe would have first blood, but it wasn’t to be the first night. Early morning I received a take on my right hand rod which resulted in a lovely low twenty common.
After safely landing, weighing, photographing and returning the fish I decided to try my luck on the surface because, as you know, I’ve had a bit of luck recently.
A couple hours later, we had clocked the fish in the upper layers having had a few taking mixers on the surface soaked in Sucessful Baits liquids. On confirmation of this Uwe decided to try a zig on a rod in an area we had seen a fair amount of activity.
Unfortunately Uwe did receive a take but it was not to be on this occasion, quickly breaking his zig hooklink.
I had seen a few fish down my end of the lake but opted to leave my rods out for a couple hours and get some bait on a few spots with the last night rapidly approaching.
The next morning I received my second take of the trip. At practically the same time as the previous morning, this resulted in a gorgeous linear.
This was the last activity of the trip, shortly afterwards Uwe started his pack up and so did I. I’d really enjoyed my session and meeting Uwe, 100% looking forward to another session as soon as possible.
I’ve been in a bit of a rut just lately. Having waited so long for this knee operation all I think now is I wish I didn’t have it done. Missing out on some banging fishing weather and can’t wait to get back out. Just hoping I manage to squeeze in one or two more sessions before it does get too cold.
I’m not catching, I hope you are.
