Charlie Richards, Elson Lake

On this session we began our journey 2 hours up the M1 to Stanwick Lakes Fishery in Wellingborough for the Successful Baits social. The lake we had to come fish was Elsons, a 6 acre lake with 12 swims and many fish over 30lb, with the bigger fish mainly being commons.
Once we arrived at Stanwick, we were met in the car park by SB UK owner Uwe and a few other team members. We took our first walk around Elsons whilst Uwe and Callum pegged the chosen swims out. A few of the others arrived and it was time to do the draw! I drew Peg 8 which was a swim known to produce fish and a favourite amongst regular anglers at Elsons so I couldn't wait to get my lines in the water!
After barrowing my tackle round to the swim I began to lead around and find any clear patches amongst the thick weed. After approximately 2 hours I had found my spots and I was happy to start fishing. I baited my three spots with a light spread of VNX + boilies and within an hour I could clearly see movement in the baited area, so it was time to get the rods in the water with as little disturbance as possible. After losing a fish at around 10:30pm and having a cygnet tangled up in my lines at 11:30pm, I was into my first fish on the VNX + 12mm pop ups at 3:30pm the following day, a fiery dark common weighing at 21lb 6oz.

Now having a lot more confidence on my spot I got the rod baited and back in the water as soon as possible.
With the first fish under my belt it was time to celebrate with a nice cold beer and a pizza!
James and I were sitting in my swim the following morning at around 10:30am when my right hand rod ripped off and I was into another common, but this one felt much bigger than the first fish.
After a 20 minute battle James had netted the fish known as the Robin Common weighing in at 35lb 6oz, a cracking fish and a new PB! I was absolutely buzzing.
